Bashkortostan is one of the leading industrial and agricultural regions in Russia, a core oil-producing region in the country and a major chemical industry and mechanical engineering hub.

The Republic of Bashkortostan is located on the borderline between Europe and Asia, at the intersection of important waterways, railways, pipelines and highways connecting the European part of the country with the Urals, Siberia and Central Asia.

Bashkortostan is traversed by the Trans-Siberian Railway and two federal roads — M5 Ural and M7 Volga. The length of the Republic's railways is more than 3,000 km, enabling a wide choice of route. Cargo transportation is over 30 million tons annually.
